It may not be intuitive but you likely did not receive second UA confirmation email. The first email provides the PNR (reservation) while second email provides ticket number. You don't have a valid ticket until you receive second email with 13 digit UA ticket number.
Correct, I do understand that. In the several hundred flights that I’ve taken over the past 10 years, that second step has been perfunctory every other time.
