Reasonable domestic connection time in SYD or BNE?
For the last domestic leg of my 2023 trip I'm trying to use AA miles to get from Cairns to Melbourne. (UA miles on VA is another option.) I would love a daytime nonstop, but on the day I’m traveling I seem to be limited to only itineraries that have connections. The flights I'm considering all connect via SYD or BNE. Some of these flights have connections as tight as 30 minutes, which is outside my comfort zone under any circumstances. In this case, although my wife is mobile she may need to be met with a wheelchair if there's a long walk to the connecting gate, so I might need to build in some extra time.
In an ideal world, I would aim for around 75 minutes for some breathing room. But in either SYD or BNE domestic terminals, I don't know if getting from arrival to departure gates might actually be only a short 5-10 minute walk, in which case I would be OK with a shorter layover, maybe 45 minutes.
Could anyone here please offer some advice on what might be a comfortable domestic connection time in SYD or BNE? Is one airport an overall better choice than the other? (And I'm aware that between now and the start of our trip anything I book may change 5 times, but I have to start somewhere...)
As always, thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
