Sorry, this is not the Cabin crew's call. We may be required to leave the gate area by the airport authority as the stand/gate is required for an incoming aircraft.

If you mean flight deck, the Capt may be subject to a ground hold by ATC which keeps us out on the taxiways or ina penalty box somehwere as we wait for the delay to clear. Sometimes we need to be there to get away quickly. I agree that it is frustrating and very uncomfortabel for the passengers, but we can have all sorts of reasons, a late slot closure, weather (USA particularly where they close everything down for thunderstorms), we are not on overtime believe me - we are not on US pay or conditions.
