I personally love St. Maarten/St. Martin. It has some gorgeous beaches, and something to do for everyone. You can certainly find places that are peaceful and quiet. I agree that downtown Phillipsburg, (where the cruise ships come in), is quiet touristy, however, there is much more to the island than that area. I enjoy the fabulous cuisine, a little gambling, beaches, and jewelry shopping. I also like being able to drink the water!
