Southwark has plenty of cool bars and restaurants going on - whether they are places you'd necessarily want to take very young kids is another question. You're well enough connected from either Southwark or Kings Cross (the former much closer to Shakespeare's Globe, St Paul's Cathedral, etc., the latter much closer to the British Library, etc.). Limehouse I don't know, but it is further out.
