In July, 1977, when I was 9 years old, dad (who was an engineer for General Motors) was invited to give a speech in Madrid, then after dad's speech we flew on to Norway to visit family friends. My parents and I flew:

DTW-JFK: NW 747
JFK-MAD: IB 747
MAD-AGP: IB 727 - side trip to see the Alhambra Palace
AGP-MAD: IB 727
MAD-CPH: SK DC-9-40
CPH-FBU: SK DC-9-40
BGO-JFK: SK DC-8-63
JFK-DTW: AA DC-10

I still remember all of the flights vividly, because even at age 9, I was crazy about airplanes. Unfortunately, although my parents wanted to fly TWA DTW-JFK-MAD to avoid an interline connection at JFK, I insisted on taking NW to IB because I wanted to fly IB, not TWA, across the Atlantic. Mom's suitcase didn't make it from NW to IB at JFK, and she was without clothing for 4 days in Spain before her suitcase was returned to her.

The first flight I remember was PSP-PHX-ORD-DTW on an AA DC-10 in 1974, when I was 6. The DC-10 originated in LAX. PSP is one of the US's most beautiful airports, and in my mind I can still see the AA DC-10 on final approach to PSP with mountains in the background.
