AA uses C and A as both upgrade and revenue fare classes--the former is a subset of the latter and tends to be much more restrictive. Last night I got an alert for C on a very unlikely route, and when I went to check EF manually it was showing J7 C7 (along with many other routes). This seemed odd and led me to believe that EF was showing me revenue C, not upgrade C. I never actually tried to upgrade on any of these routes, though, so cannot definitively confirm one way or another.
This morning the routes I checked last night are "back to normal" more or less, i.e., J7 C0.
AA also periodically has issues where C0 and A0 (upgrade) flights instantly clear. Likely their splendid IT displaying it's prowess. I managed to clear a ton of BXP2s on C0 flights a few months ago. Agent was like "that's weird, but let's go for it". Not sure if it was a display issue or an upgrade clearing issue.
It's always a crap shoot when ENIAC runs your airline.
