I would say check other airlines (REX, QantasLink, Jetstar, Link Airways) to see if you can get from where you are in Tasmania to Melbourne, Adelaide, or Canberra and connect there as a plan B. If anything, if you have to overnight somewhere, I think Melbourne (and maybe Adelaide) might have a really early morning flight to Sydney that will get you there in time to catch AC34.
I will be on the other side of the cabin.

In the end I decided to skip Tasmania this time around. I’ll find other things to do between Sydney and Brisbane and save Tasmania for a time when things have calmed down.
