  • Do your kids have their own SkyMiles account?
Yeah. No downside and you can earn miles for free tickets.
  • Do you try to use the miles or do you accrue them (and let them devalue over time)?
I spend them just like I’d spend my own miles. I tend to use them more often because I couldn’t care less if my kids earn status and/or sit in the back of coach (they’re 16)
  • Are you saving them up to turn them over when they're 18?
No way.
  • Do you have other FF programs for them with other airlines?
Absolutely. No downside other than remembering to keep them active.
  • Any other strategies/thoughts?
Don’t think too hard about this.
  • Any of you have little ones with status already?
Yes. They have had status on AA and AS at different times. Now they have no status because their travel has diminished due to covid. Given that my kids generally earn silver, I don’t see much benefit to status for them because they get free luggage from me and they’d never be upgraded since we live in Atlanta.
