Seat assignment on QF codeshare on NZ metal

For the first time, I find myself booked on NZ metal domestically but a QF codeshare (a DH3 flight BHE-AKL, connecting to QF metal AKL-SYD). Is there any way to do seat assignments for the domestic segment, beyond the generic aisle/window requests? The flights were booked through Amex Travel and I only have the QF record locator.

Given it's a DH3 (and a relatively short flight) where most seats are pretty decent, I'm not too concerned about it, but would be nice to get it sorted.

Also, does anyone have experience of online check-in with these flights? I assume QF's online check-in won't let me check in for the NZ flight. Does that mean I can't do online check-in for my QF segment either?
