Since your Virgin Australia flight is on a different reservation (and you booked the flights separately), then you're responsible for rebooking the AC flight. If you call AP before your AC flight is scheduled to leave then you can rebook your AC flight pending availability, but you'd be responsible for the fare difference in AP. Travel insurance might be an option as well if you have that.
