I've had mixed experience on carrying wallets on my person. I'm TSA precheck and ever so often the total amount of metal due to the wallet, my belt and possible metal fixtures in jeans - sets off the alarm and I have to reduce some of it by putting it in a plastic tray. At other times a wallet has gone through just fine.

Whatever the reason and whether justified or not, the officers are generally highly reluctant to backtrack a demand and I cheerfully submit to their demands which I find to be the best possible way out of such situations. Calling a supervisor has never helped the situation as far as I can remember.
