For the very first time in well over 30 years of (weekly) travel, TSA at FLL terminal 3 demanded I surrender my wallet for additional screening (either Xray or hand search).

I protested, involved a supervisor (pretty nasty guy), but they were adamant. The nasty supervisor insisted (INSISTED) this was normal, TSA/across-the-board practice, yet my weekly travel and history clearly contradicts his claim. I was issued an ultimatum: screen the wallet, or don't fly.

I'm accustomed to keeping it in my pants (no pun intended), and walking thru the Xray machine. FYI, I'm a Pre-check participant, as well as Global Entry.

My wallet contains a ton of personal information, not to mention cash, and a host of credit cards. It's not a "George Costanza" wallet by any means.

I truly see no reason for this, but was wondering if this IS commonplace (and I've just somehow managed to be excluded from this allegedly 'universal' practice)?

Further, what are they interested in finding in my wallet? What possible threat could my wallet contain?
