Hotel: Sonnenalp (Vail, CO)
Room Booked: Lodgepole Junior Suite 2 Doubles
Early Check-in: offered via email in advance, didn't need
Late Checkout: offered at check-in, didn't need
Upgrade: no mention of upgrade, had a nice view/location - didn't press as was a long travel day in, room was totally fine
$100 Food & Beverage Credit: could be used anywhere on property - several restaurants/bars - had dinner at Bully Ranch, billed to room, credit on bill at checkout
Breakfast: for 2 in Ludwig's (amazing buffet) - asked about room service, they said could be arranged, but we went to Ludwigs both mornings we were there - a nice benefit - they did not charge us for our 2 young kids for the buffet, even though the benefit is for only 2 people, we were 4. Credit shows up on the bill at breakfast (bill for $2, I believe so you can tip on the room charge).
Comment: Not many recent Sonnenalp reports here / on the rest of the site, so will give some more detail... TL/DR: we loved the stay. I was going back and forth on booking, looking at 4S, Arrabelle and even VRBO for a couple of nights on the end of a trip elsewhere in the mountains. I'll admit, the pictures on their website and TripAdvisor weren't inspiring to me - looked a bit dated and was a little worried about it - but in real life, so much nicer, warm. The service is truly what sets this apart - Valet especially welcoming, bellmen, restaurant servers, pool, etc. Everyone, especially in this current "travel stressed environment" was always courteous and warm. Says something about tenure of staff too.
Location is excellent in Vail Village - we were there in Summer, so not looking at ski in/out lens of location, but town walkability - basically right where you want to be in Vail Village and close to the path to Lionshead.
Concierge/Front Desk/Bell team - all excellent to coordinate a late arrival, check in / check out and hiking , dining, itineraries.
Kids - travelling with 2 young kids, all staff helpful and gracious - proactive suggestions, help , etc - property has a full kids club/program (we didnt use) and game room, pools, etc.
Quibbles: property is in great shape and well kept, but a bit dated... this shows only really with technology (wifi in our rooms was barely serviceable, we didn't need to work, but if we did, likely could not in the room... common areas was much better)... also, lack of power outlets near beds - a real pet peeve of mine)... again, these are minor in the grand scheme but wanted to point out - I mentioned this in their post stay FHR survey to them.
Service Recovery: some minor housekeeping issue and a couple of requests were handled IMMEDIATELY and with grace and impeccable recovery. That says everything.
Would not hesitate to return when in Vail and/or recommend
