Getting to and parking along the Jersey side of the Hudson is not necessarily all that much easier than just driving into Manhattan. Depending on where your friend is coming from in PA, Morristown might be an option. There is a Hyatt there a 10 min walk from NJT station. Also, depending on location in PA there is the possibility to take Amtrak for most of the entire journey (fares vary widely from cheap to ridiculous)
