Yes, they are two separate entities, to a degree. They do, however, share a physical plant and some managerial positions. This is quite common among hotels when they have a common or attached infrastructure and ownership.
My original point was that it was interesting to read that the level of service at one property, taken into consideration the management, was quite inferior to the other one.
I only stayed one night at the Marriott, so I can't compare the 2 hotels.
