My wife and I stayed at the Great Northern Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, London, for one night at the end of April. I booked it just two days before our arrival with a 40K free night certificate. I successfully used an SNA to upgrade from the lowest category room to a larger room, but not to the highest category. We were heading north from Kings Cross Station the next morning, so the location was unbeatable. We enjoyed our stay. I would gladly stay again.

One of the Platinum Elite (and above) Welcome Gift choices is daily breakfast for member + 1. Breakfast is served in the table service restaurant, Plum + Spilt Milk. My wife and I each ordered a breakfast item, juice, and coffee. The food was excellent. The juice tasted fresh squeezed. Our breakfast was fully covered. I don't know if we could also have ordered a side, such as fruit or pastry. We didn't try.

We also had dinner at Plum - Spilt Milk the evening before. Also excellent. We charged the meal to the room, but did not receive Marriott Bonvoy points for the it, apparently because it's a third party restaurant.


Breakfast at Plum + Spilt Milk: Smoked salmon, "eggs cooked to your liking" (perfectly poached in my case), and sourdough toast.
