Hi ORD Gurus, connection question for you.

flying end of August AA#2187 LAX-ORD arr. 2:07p then BA #294 ORD-LHR dep 5:05p. 3 of us traveling. I’m on AA stock purchased as one itinerary. Wife and kid are on their own PNR’s as two separate itineraries (LAX-ORD then ORD-LHR).

we have tons of checked bags (5-6) because dropping off kid at school. I’m not sure what my allowance is as AA PP (LAX-ORD IN Y and ORD-LHR in J) I was gonna put all bags on my ticket and pay extra so we can check bags all the way through to LHR - does this sound like a good plan to make this connection? Looks like AA#2187 sits at LAX overnight so not to worried about that first leg getting delayed.
