I have stayed at Thompson once and Andaz many times. Thompson is a nice hotel, but location is a long walk from most of the restaurants and city center.
Andaz is off Ellis Square, right in the middle of everything and convenient to walk to everything.
Breakfast at Thompson is better than Andaz. Thompson is Cat 5 vs Andaz at Cat 4. Room rates in Savannah go crazy on weekends, so great time to use points. Weekday rates can be quite reasonable.
If location and room rates are not concerns, then I'd go with Thompson.
