I'm a fan of Jakarta, and the airport is well served by "airport" hotels: but getting to them can be messy for the uninitiated. A further consideration is the visa faff entering Indonesia: this might be better faced more-or-less refreshed after a night in a comfortable hotel and a shower.
one-way fares SIN DPS on Singapore Airlines are likely to be $300+ while AirAsia between Jakarta and Bali is more like $50+ and Garuda (full service carrier) usually offers CGK DPS flights around $100+.
So I guess it's down to how much an indulgent dad is prepared to pay for the couple's comfort and convenience.
I would love to hear more of your thoughts on this as I'm planning a trip to Indonesia that requires an overnight layover in CGK.
