I haven't received a targeted promotion in 2-3 years and I suspect this is because Marriott knows that I have 2 CCs and am likely to stay 100+ nights no matter what so why throw a few FNAs or points at me?
I have 3 credit cards and usually have close to 100 nights per year. I also have multiple bookings in my account as I always book months ahead. I get 1-2 targeted promos per year. The Amex offers and my Marriott gift cards incentivize me far more than these promos, but I'm always happy to get them. I don't bounce around between hotel chains.
It really does seem totally random.
