Sharing another data-point among these tales of baggage woes...
CDG-LHR-GLA on Friday 01/07. 2025 from CDG and 2200 from LHR. CDG flight was fine (though a bit panicked pre-departure due to strikes at CDG - very long wait at passport control). Family of 5 with three kids under 10 years old.
Sitting at our gate waiting for boarding at CDG, we got a text advising the GLA flight was cancelled. Over a series of frantic internet searches and calls to the disruption number provided, it became apparent there was no availability LHR-GLA until Monday 04/07.
On arrival at LHR we eventually ended up in baggage reclaim, left to fend for ourselves like so many others. We decided to get a train to Glasgow the next day, and were told we wouldn't be getting our bags back (the people at flight connections either didn't know this, or didn't have the heart to tell us).
The only available hotels in London were eye-wateringly overpriced. Several booking engines reported no rooms available at all. Travelodge website crashed. Premier Inn full. We ended up in a Hilton in Stratford, paying £1600 for two rooms. Price-gouging. Including the other expenses, we're not far shy of £2,500 out-of pocket so far - and we've not even claimed anything for clothing etc as a result of delayed baggage (as this was our return flight home).
All of which is to say, five days on and still no sight or sign of our baggage, no comms from BA. I was able to submit a report online, and we handed in the customs form before leaving the airport too (though that's pointless as final destination was within the UK). My Airtags have shown the bags randomly moving around T5A, poor little things. Today they're together, yesterday they were split up, the day before that they were all together. I got through to the baggage helpline in around 25 minutes yesterday which impressed me, and the guy was nice, but ultimately useless. Can't offer any advice or certainty over timeframes or compensation.
We have another trip coming up, departing next Friday, for which I need the items in our bags. The bags aren't officially lost until day 21, so can't claim on travel insurance until after that trip. Not sure if BA will cover the cost of replacing the items (mostly clothing) not returned in advance of my next trip, as they're hardly 'essentials'?
