When BA made an announcement back in February regarding a few customer experience improvements (eg return of pre-Covid meal service in CE, dedicated WTP check in etc), it also talked about a new baggage tracing system “allowing customers to track their bag via their phone throughout their journey”. No details were given at the time and haven’t heard more since, so it’s either shelved, delayed (like many bags) or perhaps in a quiet pilot phase.
More generally, although hardly ideal, one would hope that BA cancelling 76,000 seats out of the July schedule from / to LHR as part of the slot rule amnesty (plus nearly 30k at LGW), will help alleviate this situation, among others.
