in India now and trying to use US cards now is a mess, especially with new guidelines/rules in place - some success, and a lot more fails for online/app purchases. On the good side, they generally all are accepted when making in-person purchases, which was definitely not my experience about 8 years ago.
I haven't had a chance to update this thread, but I was back in Singapore in early May. My CSR worked perfectly tapping on the bus and subway. There is like a one-second lag and you have to get the card pretty close to the reader in order for it to work.

You should start a thread on credit cards in India. I like traveling and not dealing with cash.
