Alaska Premium Class upgrade without Aadvantage status?

Just booked a flight on Alaska and selected my seats in the back. Remembered I could link my AA account to get some miles so i did. When I checked back, all of a sudden my seat is now in the premium class cabin. I don't have status anymore. I had Platinum throughout before the pandemic but flying dropped off hard. I couldn't maintain it and I don't have any status right now with American. So, I shouldn't have access to premium class, right?

Is this a glitch? I called Alaska and just asked to be upgraded to Premium Class but they said it was already paid for. Didn't want to press questions so I left it for now. Any idea if I'll be asked to pay for it at check-in next month? I assume it's either that or I'm just moved to the back.
