I lived in the US a couple of years ago and upon the move I changed my M&M to the US - however kept my SENVisa in Germany on a friends address. Later on I changed the address on the SENVisa to the US - and got statements and everything sent there without problems. At that time there was no US Visa card.
As long as you have a German account behind your Visa card - it does not matter where you are based.

I do not know what the advantages would be of having two cards - as you would use either for your spendings - not increase the spending - but would have to have funds at either end for your balancepayments, which is a hassle unless you receive income at both ends - in terms of currency transfers as well as Forex risks.
