I'm sure others will chime in in due course but I wouldn't be rushing to the airport and would instead go and enjoy a nice dinner. In similar circumstances I've been advised that you are OK to sort your own accommodation and seek reimbursement directly from BA (suggesting a GBP200 or equivalent per night limit will make it fuss-free) without having to contend with a scrum of other passengers.
