There's "safe" origins (US, Canada, others) and "unsafe" origins (South Africa, Caribbean, Latam, ..).

For the former, only passport control is needed. For the latter, you'd also go through security.

There's a list somewhere with countries having "sufficient" security in place so no re-clearance has to happen - it's also not a list AMS decides on themselves, just can't find it right now.
