Thanks...but that's not what I am looking for.

What I am thinking of is similar, but short-term and for adults. The premise is this:

I send an e-mail out that I want a place to stay in france for a week. You respond and say I can sleep on your couch. You take me out for a beer and I meet some of your friends and we talk politics and wine making. A few months later I get an e-mail from someone from Brazil and offer my couch in Chicago. I take him out for dinner at my favorite dive Thai restaurant and introduce him to the Chicago wind and Ice Skating in Millenium park in July (just kidding).

I think there was a 3-day limit on the length of stay (to keep people from really abusing this) and you were asked to make it a local cultural experience for the person. You didn't have to accept a guest, but if you did you couldn't charge or expect them to do anything for you (although helping with the dishes is, I am sure, acceptable).

Now that I have explained myself better, does anyone have any ideas? If not, I am going to start one. Let me know if there is interest.

By the way, I went on a YFU program to Spain a few years back (about 10) which is what kicked off my love for travel...everyone should do it.
