This past January we shifted vast majority of spend to AA Executive Card, where the club is somewhat better, authorized users can visit without the primary, and the spend accrues status through the AA Loyalty Point scheme. When I cancelled they made a token $100 offer to reduce the annual fee this year but when I declined they didn't seem surprised. Annual fee is refunded as long as you cancel during the first billing cycle, after that it's nonrefundable.
Thanks for the update, as I am flying less frequently this year for a multitude of reasons I may attempt to get the $100 kick back offer as well. The point per mile was a huge hit for me as well and while I like the UC and most the location I hit they are not too bad it just may not be worth it anymore. I have used the rental and travel insurance in the past when they were underwritten by Chubb and I had two experiences where it did actually save me thousands of dollars but now they dropped Chubb and don't know who the current underwriter is. Held the card for many years but I tend to agree the value is declining.
