Thanks for the replies. One of the disadvantages of the the exit row seats is that they have the video screens in the armrests, making the seats narrower than normal seats. That's why I was wondering whether the extra legroom (if there is any) might be the value for 34. Being one row forward from the seat behind certainly doesn't seem to be a good reason to pay so much more.

I'd rather take a regular economy seat with middle seat empty rather than sitting beside someone --- it's highly likely the preferred seats will be full even if economy isn't as elites can select it for free with a flex+ ticket
