Considering your budget is tight and your travel plans are in more than 6 months, you might consider getting an Amex Gold card if you don't have one yet.
In the past year there has been 2 promotions, 10% off on AF-KLM flights, and one 50% promotion on AF business flights.
There is no promise that Amex will have these promotions again though.

Good luck traveling long haul with a 3-4yo, I haven't had the courage to do it yet.
