You are probably OK in either checked or cabin luggage, but it depends on the power rating of the battery. Typically a quick search of Amazon will find this information. At a certain point they can't go in the hold, but I would surprised if a set of speakers or similar consumber items are near the relevant cut offs. The details are here.
