TSA = License to steal?!?!
Yesterday, my son traveled back to Houston on DL 1649 out of LGA connecting through DFW. He got in to Houston late last night so did not start unpacking until this morning. When he was unpacking, he noticed that his bag was a complete disaster, totally disheveled. He had two bottles of wine, which were packed securely in styrofoam specifically meant to transport bottles. We sealed the styrofoam with one strip of tape so that if TSA were to inspect his bag, they could easily seal it back. Needless to say, TSA did check his bag, hence the dishelvement, and they did not pack the wine back securely. He was very fortunate that the wine bottles did not come loose and break. I know, he should have carried his bottles of wine on, but he felt it was going to be fine with the styrofoam packaging.
The worst part of all this is that one of his DVD videos was missing. Somebody, I assume it was TSA, stole his DVD video. Not a lot of money and it can easily be replaced. But this is about safety and security and trust. I am not so much upset about the stolen video, as I am about TSA agents using the opportunity, especially at this time of the year, to pilfer through people's private belongings and take what they want. And yes, I'm pretty sure it was TSA and not the baggage handlers.
I know the runaround he's going to get now. Delta will blame TSA and TSA will blame Delta and my son will be caught in the middle. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, what actions have you taken? I've told my son to call Delta and file a formal report and also to contact TSA and file a formal report. We'll see what happens.
