The Paddington Basin area along the canal is lovely - just a few minutes walk from Paddington station. If you lose the will/time to go all the way into town, and it's a sunny day, walking along the canal, stopping at the numerous bars/cafes along there. I particularly like the wine bar 'Vagabond' where you self serve yourself wines (in small measures if you wish!) on an app...and if you're craving a cheese toastie, I highly recommend The Cheese Barge almost next to the wine bar. Excellent menu of all things cheese related, from very good toasties, to whole baked cheese, meat dishes and cheese boards...all on a floating barge.
