If you have credit balance that you do not think you would be able to use it up quickly the best option is to request the ACH credit refund. Otherwise AMEX system will generate the refund on the closing date of the 3rd billing cycle that still shows a credit balance.
In my case the above transaction was on the first closing date after the transaction that caused the credit. Credit transaction posted 5/30, refund check transaction on 6/19.
