I was at Windsor two weeks ago via train and enjoyed it. Best to buy a ticket in advance as I guess it is popular due to the Jubilee. The town is 'touristy', so I ate in Eton and then walked back to the train station.

That said, the ride from LHR to Paddington was very easy and lots of directions you could go from there.
