Yes. You had to wait in a long line to check your bag ( 3 free 75 lb. bags ) and then in another long line to get a boarding pass and then fight to actually get on the plane.

For all this you were compensated because in those days Southwest actually was the low price carrier to almost any destination and you got free tickets for an insanely small amount of flying.
