The B779 will have the B787 cockpit, so the hope was that the common rating will be flexible for B789/B779 planning. LHG has B777 rated crews in OS/LX/Cargo and training facilities. So getting the B747 crews that are currently training to be B789 pilots to be rated on B77W is not a big issue. The former A380 crews have moved back to A350/330 or are training for the B789. A major block of the senior flight crew that used to fly the A380 have been sent into early retirement.
