Even though security wasn't overly busy at the time, this was our experience in T1 on a recent domestic flight. Almost every person was "selected" for a secondary of some type. Meanwhile the bag belt backed up, with staff shouting "whose laptop is this" and similar. There were a ton of checkers on duty - probably outnumbering the passengers, but this process introduced a delay of about 20 minutes when none was necessary.
