From what I understand, the queuing outside is only for people with bags to check-in or those who need to go to a check-in desk. Those able to go straight to security can go immediately there, bypassing any queue outside.
That's what I have gleaned from comments here and there that I have read. I do recall Dublin Airport saying a bunch of new security staff were going online throughout June, so it may well be a non-issue even now. I suppose the good news is that the papers have not been full of stories about it lately, which usually means things are working out well.
Nope there's two queues outside / marked entrances to the terminal ( T1 at least ) .. One is 'Security Only' and one is 'Checkin Bag Drop' ... The Security Only one feeds into the main security queue and the checkin bag drop one lets you go and do that first and then you join the main security queue ( directly inside, don't have to go outside and queue again if the queues are overflowing outside ) .. It seems that only if the queues are > 45 minutes ( currently only relatively rarely during the week I think , little more at the weekend ) they're using the tented queueing area outside .. I guess if you wanted to use Fast Track and they were using the outside queues you'd do the outside queueing and then join fast track yourself when they let you inside ?
As I noted above not really sure why it was so much queueing last Saturday as all the security lanes were open .. no obvious staff shortage ... can it really be that much busier than pre-covid ( when lines like this would have been very unusual )
