I' ve had two TATL upgrades and three N.A. upgrades when flights were either overbooked in Y or the gate agent was trying to organize seats for families, simply by offering the gate agent my boarding pass and telling them I have no problems if they needed seat. It's been a while though.

In May I had BIL-MSP-DCA turn into BIL-SLC-BWI, with SLC-BWI being a redeye. The GA put in me in EC for SLC-BWI without prompting. I asked about F, but she said it was full.
