When it comes to being a couple, I really can't think of a beneficial strategy here (unless you don't fly together often). For Delta, if you fly together then she'll essentially get your status so long as she's on your same reservation.

It gets a bit sticky if you have a family beyond you and your wife. That's when having two status' can work in your favor, but barring that, there's not much else.
