Sorry to bump an old thread but I've never bought a basic fare before and had some questions:

1) Do you still get elite benefits -> mainly free seat selection and free checked bags?
2) I know you can't e-up basic fares but are there last minute upgrade offers when available?

The price difference is $2800 from basic to flex $6000 for business.
