I was caught up in the mess of cancelations this weekend. A one-hour layover at La Guardia Friday night turned into a canceled flight with no availability to fly out until the next day at JFK. Since they blamed weather, I had to pay for my own overpriced hotel room and ground transportation. One thing that did work in my favor, though, is that, as others have noted, your upgrade stays with you if you are moved to a new flight with AA. My Saturday flight included flagship business class from JFK-LAX. I've never flown it before and greatly enjoyed the lie flat seats, premium video screens, and multi-course lunch including an ice cream sundae for dessert. Also, my ticket granted me access to the Flagship lounge so I had complimentary breakfast, drinks, and a nice place to relax before departure. I've never been so grateful for the AS/AA partnership.
