I have the Monos Hybrid Carry-On Plus. I bought it with the intention of using it as checked luggage and have only done that thus far. However, after just traveling with my Air Boss and a backpack I’m thinking of using it for carry-on next time. I also have a Rimowa Topas medium check-in and a couple of Travelpros. Here are some thoughts:
-Wheels are smaller than Rimowa’s (at least on the medium version). They run smoothly and relatively quietly (and are more quiet than Away’s). I do not know how strong they are compared to other spinner wheels, but I consider any spinner to be the weakest link. My Rimowa’s broke and required a warranty repair.
-The dimensions are above 22x14x9 but are within the actual size of overhead compartments. Depth is right at 9.5”. In theory, this should fit the CRJ-700 overheads.
-Rolling is smooth and consistent with typical spinner vs rollaboard expectations. Smooth surfaces are great while carpeted surfaces require the bag to be pulled just like a rollaboard.
-The push-button for the handle is located underneath, which prevents accidentally depressing it. I consider this to be on-par with other recessed styles of push buttons (such as on the Travelpro rollaboards).
-I bought the Monos packing cubes but find them to be not worth it. They provide very little compression and end up being inefficient in terms of volume since the middle of each cube is thicker than the edges. Furthermore, one side of the luggage has a compression panel, so adding compression cubes doesn’t add any value. On the other side, I typically pack incompressible items (e.g., shoes, toiletries) so the packing cubes do not benefit my use case. Aside from that, the material is nice. Maybe I’ll try another method to use them.

From now on, I think I will use this bag for carry-on, a backpack for a personal item, and an optional checked Red Oxx PR5 or PR5.5.
