They claim I had a choice and decided to approve DCC at the time of pickup . What really happened is the agents are all trained to tap 'accept' while they are pre authorizing your credit card for deposit. They never handed me the terminal.

It took quite a bit of back and forth at the time of return, plus a call to their ireland main office, but they reversed and re-ran in local currency.

Key takeaway: if you are at a hotel or agency known for DCC scams, only pay with Amex. Amex does not allow DCC, and as such their terminal will never even prompt you (or them).
