Not another middle name thread!
I booked an award ticket through LifeMiles for a UA operated EU-> US flight. Looking at my itinerary it shows both my and my wife’s name as just First Last. I’m guessing there wasn’t a middle name field when booking as I’m always very focused on putting the names as they show on the passport with middle names. I went to OLCI today and was able to obtain a boarding pass for myself, yet it says it can’t check in my wife because the name doesn’t match the passport. Seems odd considering we both don’t have middle names on the ticket, the only reason I can think of why I would be able to OLCI but she can’t is that she has 2 middle names and I have 1 and the system was confused by the extra middle name.
anyways, the question is: I know ordinarily middle names don’t get in the way of checking in (as they did not for my OLCI), but should I be concerned/doing anything further due to my wife being refused OLCI or will the airport check in go smoothly even if OLCI didn’t?
edit/answer: in the end it went fine despite OLCI rejecting my wife’s attempt - the check in agent mumbled something to another about “mismatch” and managed to get the boarding pass issued in a few seconds.
