I'm actually on the flight right now for which this created a problem. The passport did scan properly, but wasn't being verified. The passport is a US Passport, and the visa is an OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) card. I later found out that it was because I booked a one-way, they needed return documentation (which I had, and was pulling up, but weirdly the agent approved before I even showed it) and to visually validate my documents. Weird.
