We have just booked EDI-IAD and ATL-EDI for December and no problems at all with Avois and our companion voucher.

It can only be done over the phone. Agent was helpful, although we were able to call the gold line. I would try again and reiterate that it is possible and can only be done over the phone (and there should be no charge for this).
